Logitech Brio 4K Stream Edition – Windows Hello not working and the search for the mystery firmware

So i recently brought a Logitech Brio 4K Steam Edition from Amazon on a black Friday week deal and noticed this was a Logitech Brio Ultra HD Pro and a Logitech Brio Steam Edition, odd! i didn’t realise there was more than one Brio, I thought a Brio was a Brio!.

Here’s what i saw on Amazon, as you can see the Stream was £111 vs at the time £199 so a good saving on the Stream.

So i had a read up online and found some posts stating the main differences between the Pro and the Stream Edition were the packaging is different (i can live with that), the Stream Edition included a 12 months licence premium XSplit licence (bonus) but they run different firmware although its believed the hardware is the same (Sound ok). So perhaps a bit of marketing consumer vs business.

The Stream seems to be more for the gamers and streamers. I also checked the Teams Certified device page and it lists the Brio 4K Webcam as certified and not specifically calling out the Pro or Stream so believe the Stream should be a certified device.

I noticed a comment on Amazon as well on the Stream page so i was warned!

So i still brought the Stream Edition as it was cheaper of course 🙂 i thought bargain!

Windows Hello time or maybe not 😦

Then i got my Stream and thought great it looks like a Brio, yes the box is different and i have a free xsplit licence! Win Win! First i wanted a USB windows Hello camera and for some reason it didn’t work with Windows Hello 😦 nooooo, perhaps it was too good to be true.

The Search starts

So off i went and downloaded the Logi software and OMG there is so many logi tools it seems that do the similar job with Logi capture, Logi GHub, tune and camera settings.

I believe GHub is the latest and greatest so tried that, as Windows hello wasn’t working i checked firmware was up to date and it said it was so that was odd. I tried Logi Capture and no joy as well so gave up on them.

I searched on Logi support site and couldnt find the Brio stream only its friend the Brio Pro. Where are you Stream!

I then started searching for Windows Hello not working on Brio Stream and started finding more and more posts and then i remembered the comment on Amazon about different firmware between the Pro and the Stream! nooo! why didnt i listen and i was warned! So there must be different firmware out there somewhere.

I searched Logi site and just couldnt find the Stream device on their webcams just the Pro! again! I download a firmware update tool from the Pro page but it said device not found 😦 arghhh confirms different firmware story. Again!

Getting Closer

Then i found a support article for “Use Brio 4K Stream Edition webcam with Windows Hello”, thats what im trying to do! so maybe getting closer!

I spotted another downloads section and i found even more software ! but there was a Brio 4K Stream Firmware Update! Interesting!

There was two firmware update of course that was 😉 so checked them both and the one at the top was the latest so downloaded this and installed !

I found it !

Download here – https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024839733-Downloads-BRIO-4K-Stream-Edition

if this download doesnt work ive added a link to a copy on my OneDrive https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvBNRjYUuhsvjcJpoNXM8BzfrhYFww?e=IM1HkQ

I Installed this and firmware was not up to date and running 1.1 and this was 1.3.14 so i updated the Stream 🙂 and guess what ?

Windows Hello works now with updated firmware! Magic!

But if go Logi GHub and check the firmware against the Logi 4K Stream Edition firmware update tool they are different as shown below! 😦

Not sure why it even shows Brio 4K Stream in GHub so it knows its a Stream but its showing 2.0.2 and up to date again.

Well thats was great fun and perhaps next time ill listen to the amazon comments and save myself some time over saving money!

Hopefully this helps someone 🙂

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and the firmware. It’s absurd that such a premium device is so hard to identify and locate firmware for, particularly when it is key to using a highly desirable piece of functionality.

  2. Thanks Martin. Many days with this issue and you had the solution.
Even Logitech support teams have difficulties to understand…
    Thanks a lot

  3. Thank you so much Martin,
after wasting a lot of time searching the Logitech support page, chatting with support team, that sent me standard steps to troubleshoot, incl. an installation of the absolutely not helpful “G-Hub” and all the other bullshit things like “disable integrated camera”, “change biometric settings in local policy”, YOU MADE MY DAY.
Download the firmware update from your onedrive, install it, activate “Windows Hello” Face recognition and have fun. 5 Minutes and it works.
It is an impertinence from Logitech to sell a product version but not support it and leave the customer alone.

  4. Thank you so much for this, and for including the actual download file (as the Logitech page no longer exists). You have saved me from tearing my hair out! It really is very much appreciated.

  5. Thank you for this article. You saved me a lot of time. It ranked #1 in Google and pretty much instantly found the fix, unlike you and many others, that had to waste so much time. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you, whoever wrote this post.

  6. Thank you so much. Starting to chat with support desk, but the solution finding was not successful. Then I found your page and onedrive link. THANK YOU!!!! Works perfect now.
I wrote back to Logitech Support, that their software didn’t offer the firmware upgrade and they should add the firmware tool again.
